Bremerhaven was a cargo ship with a mechanical drive. It was built in 1921 in Workman, Clark & Co. shipyard in Belfast and named Reventazon. Until 1936 it floated under the British flag, next it was bought by the Union GmbH shipowner from Brema.  In 06.10.1939 the ship was taken by Reich Ministry of Labour and was often used as a transport unit for the Germans, inter alia to move more than 1,000 Germans living near Baltic Sea from Ryga in Latvia. In December 1939 Bremerhaven was  returned to the owner. Then in 15.05.1942 it was again taken over by German Navy (Kreigsmarine) as freighter floating on the Baltic Sea. About 1944 the ship was used as freighter for injured. Bremerhaven was also used as a war camp for a prisoners from factory in Police.

In 30.10.1944 at 07:30 a.m. Bremerhaven was bombed during an air ride and it stood in a fire. About 2800 persons from crew was rescued but it was unable to control the burning vessel. The day after, Bremerhaven sunk just 30 nautical miles from Hel. During accident died 410 – 470 persons.
